The NFL Offseason: Roster Evaluation, Free Agency And The Draft (PST Episode 552)

The NFL offseason is just about here. What does this time of year mean for NFL franchises, teams, scouting departments, and coaching staffs who are looking to enhance their roster for the next season? Mark Schofield from SB Nation joined us for dive into how the process of the NFL offseason works. From roster evaluation to free agency and then the NFL Draft, it’s a complex process for the sport many of us love. It was a great discussion with Mark this week!

But first, we discussed how this Sixers team and organization is coping with the loss of Joel Embiid for the foreseeable future. Will Nick Nurse be able to get some needed wins while the reigning NBA MVP is rehabbing his knee? (approx. 4:40)

We then brought back our “Up or Down” this week and discussed: The Eagles new quarterbacks coach, and the rumors of Cody Bollinger and Jordan Montgomery possibly heading to the Phillies. (approx. 16:20)

We then dove into our segment, “Slide Into Their DMs.” If we had the opportunity to DM anyone in the world of Philly sports - players, coaches, owners, anyone - about anything, and we were guaranteed we’d get a response from that individual, who would we DM, and what would that DM be? (approx. 28:00)

Do the Phillies have a pitching prospect worth keeping our eyes on in the farm system from the Australian Baseball League? Australian LHP Lachlan Wells took the ABL by storm as their MVP, and now he’s with the Phillies organization. (approx. 36:25)

What we threw down on the Table this week was an in-depth discussion and interview with Mark Schofield from SB Nation about the ins and outs of the NFL offseason. When do NFL front offices start looking at the offseason, and how does the process begin? How do organizations generate that balance between the resources and money they have on hand, and the needs for the team that need to be addressed? Assessments of the upcoming quarterback draft class. Plus much more within this discussion! (approx. 43:00)
