As the Phillies continue to rebuild their roster and farm system, they’ve also brought on board a new manager, which we’ll discuss in detail on this week’s show. The Phillies manager Gabe Kapler comes from the Dodgers organization and there’s still some questions about his style and whether or not we’ll see success with him as the skipper in the year’s to come. To help us sift through it all, John Stolnis, the host of The Felske Files podcast and contributor at TheGoodPhight.com & NumberFire.com, joined us for a look at Kapler and what we might expect from him in 2018.
But first, on the Brief News & Views segment:
1. Eagles talk: the Jay Ajayi trade, WR talk and predictions before the game vs. the Broncos. (4:45)
2. Flyers defenseman Sam Morin was called up and now he’s injured. (17:50)
3. Sixers talk: Okafor’s option not renewed, and Embiid & Simmons are lighting up the court. (23:10)
Then we get into our Up or Down segment where we briefly analyze four Philly sports figures and personalities to determine if their needle is moving up or down. (33:30)
What we’re throwing down on the Table is an in-depth interview and discussion with John Stolnis from The Felske Files podcast about the new manager, Gabe Kapler. There are many questions about the direction the team is going, but one issue we dive into at the start of our talk with John is how analytics and sabermetrics may play a larger role with Kapler and GM Matt Klentak moving forward. What will happen with the pitching coach vacancy, and who will replace Matt Stairs as the hitting coach? All of this and much more on this week’s PST Podcast Show! (42:15)
